Resonance

“Resonance”

20 x 16 x 1.5 in
When we say the words "This resonates with me," what we mean is that, something within us feels connected and similar to whatever we are talking about.
Did you know that when you sing a specific note, the corresponding string of the same note on a guitar in the same room will vibrate? That's what resonance is- pure energy being transferred from your voice, through the air, to the guitar! It's pretty amazing. (It's science... you can look this up!)
No wonder we can immediately feel connected to someone -- or disconnected for that matter! We can feel connected to specific places we visit or live in, and feel connected to colors, songs, or words. It's the energy we put out into the world, matching with things, and being brought back to us.
When I looked at this painting, that's what it felt like to me. It almost looked as if it was energy being exchanged between two souls. The forms are cloudy and ephemeral looking... as if they're about to dissipate at any moment.
Maybe that's why that moment of resonance is so special.
Here's the accompanying poem:
“To see yourself
in something or someone else,
in colors or words,
as if looking into a mirror
we recognize what we see
and feel the resonance”
