I had just returned from a two-week trip to Spain & Catalonia. I was still full and warm from the olives, iberico ham, and manchego cheese I had eaten in the sunshine. I was buzzing with creative energy. What would I create after such a life-changing trip? How could I channel all of these wonderful experiences I had into my first painting back home?
This painting was the first one I made upon returning. I let my beginner’s mind take the reins and was delighted with the result. I intuitively used a variety of blues and greens, creating a background containing gestural brushstrokes and playful markings. This painting is full of the richness of the experiences I had returned from, but was already eager to go back to. The red brushstrokes embody that yearning— the string that forever ties your heart to a place you’ve visited and fallen in love with.
