Magnolia Liliiflora

This painting was named after the type of magnolia called "Magnolia Liliiflora" because of the color of the blooms -- they are the same fuchsia and pink color as I created in this painting. The organic shapes play with the negative space in this piece, with delicate threads dancing throughout the painting. 

The magnolia is an ancient species of tree, which has been around since before bees evolved as pollinators -- it actually evolved originally for beetles to be their main pollinators. I find this fact about them truly fascinating and appreciate these trees and their beautiful blooms so much more.

When my fiancee and I lived in NYC, we had a big beautiful magnolia tree in our backyard. When it would bloom, it was so impactful, like it had erupted in large pink petals. But not long after, they would begin to fall... scattering on the ground.

The beauty of the blossoms only lasts a short while, making them even more special.
